Colgate-Palmolive UK Limited Recalling Chlorhexidine Mouthwash, Periogard

Consistent with our overriding commitment to consumer safety, Colgate-Palmolive UK Limited has announced that it is recalling its medicinal Chlorhexidine product Periogard 300 ml. Periogard is distributed through retailers, pharmacies, dental surgeries and some hospitals. It is a medicinal mouthwash used by patients for a limited duration in special circumstances, such as the treatment of severe gingivitis or following gum surgery.

The presence of microorganisms has been detected in some retained production samples of Periogard. These microorganisms rarely cause infections in healthy people, but under certain circumstances may be harmful to individuals with compromised health. Accordingly, in order to ensure the safety of our consumers, in cooperation with the Medicine and Health Regulatory Authority, Colgate-Palmolive UK is recalling all Periogard.

No other Colgate mouthwash products are included in the recall.

Consumers who have purchased Periogard should call our freephone helpline at 00 800 321 321 32 from 8:30am-5pm Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 8:30am-3pm Thursday for instructions on how to return the product and obtain a refund.

The company is recalling its medicinal Chlorhexidine mouthwash from a total of 11 countries, where it is sold under various brand names.
